Support the Children of La Boca
We are holding an event to raise money for the children of La Boca on September 8th at 21.00. It will take place on Venezuela 474 in San Telmo. Below you can see the poster for the event.
ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) is an international NGO dedicated to the mobilization of low income neighborhoods. ACORN works to help organize families and community members to participate and improve the conditions of their respective neighborhoods.
OUR NEW PROJECT: CLUB ACORN COMMUNITY CENTER
The objective of our project is to teach children the importance of community, instilling in them values and self confidence that will allow them to succeed. The kids who come to the community center will learn how to work together, regardless of their background, in a healthy way to help sustain and improve their community. They will learn that they have a voice and that they can be heard.
How To Donate with a Check:
Tax-deductible checks can be made out to ACORN International Argentina, with Club ACORN specified at the bottom of the check. Be SURE to specify Club ACORN on the check! Mail checks to: Attn: Judith Agrawal-Grafe, Sr. International Accountant 2609 Canal St. 4th Floor New Orleans, LA 70119
Thank you for your support!
WHY ARE ALI AND SARA INVOLVED?
Like so many Americans, we came to Buenos Aires with no specific plans, but wanted to become involved in our new surroundings. We came across ACORN Argentina, and spent a couple days walking around La Boca with an ACORN director—talking with community members, and through this, realized the potential of what we could do if we paired with ACORN to create a community center with a educational program for kids. We drafted project plans and wrote proposals to U.S. educational non-profits, and before we knew it, we had the support of Global Education Fund in Boulder, Colorado. Through this organization and ACORN, we have the starting books and materials that we need. We then held a fundriaser here in Buenos Aires and secured the down payment for our first three months rent for the community center in La Boca: Club Acorn. We created this blog to keep people updated on the project and let potential volunteers know how they can help. Please check back frequently!

Argentina is also well known for its tourist spots and its wonderful views and if you don't have any place to stay there, here's the perfect place.
